Just got back from the orthopedic surgeon/specialist and he opted for NO CAST!!!! He said the type of break (compaction) I incurred is the best to have as it heals really quick and while it requires TLC it is better to work 'range of motion' immediately than isolate movement. He recommended hopping on the trainer right away, back on the road next week, and mtb'ing in 6 weeks. I have another set of Xrays in 10 days to ensure no additional problems arise, but other than that I just have to watch myself and do some movements to regain flexibility (will increase when swelling goes down) and wear the splint only in the evenings/sleeping for a couple weeks.
***Pictures to the right show the bruising (and some swelling); the lines follow the splints and wrap used***
Initial look at the race calendar has me back in action at Tour of STL at the end of April and mtb'ing at Rhett's Run in mid-May. Setting up the trainer (sigh...) tonight and will start catching back up on RedBox flix.
All in all I am way lucky and understand I dodged significant injuries.
Something funny (sadly not for my esteem) Sunday morning took place when my Sunday School group wanted to pray for DEB (and NOT ME) in dealing with my injury. Whatever...
