Jake's first day as a upper-classman was uneventful (as he always reports), but he was pleasantly surprised at the good turnout for first day of XC AM practice. It was funny listening to him talk about the Freshman and I couldn't help but think internally "but you are still a Freshman; what are you doing in an upper-classman body????" Boy, that must mean Deb is getting older...
After work Deb whipped up some BLTs (one of my favorite spring/summer meals) and afterwards Ian and I headed to baseball practice. Since we are not part of the YMCA it's hard to get access to good practice facilities, but that changed yesterday as one of the kid's dad works at SBU and got us access to their softball field (which is comparable to what we play

By the end of the evening Jake was dragging butt (even though he took a good nap after school) as the early AM practice was a shock

Got in an early 1hr AM spin this morning to loosen up the legs for a mtb ride at Bolivar Landing later today. I love early morning rides (except for the spider webs on the Frisco); something very refreshing and cleansing. Ran into the XC crew and talked with the coach for a bit as he is interested in putting on some trail running races at Sac River as an XC fundraiser for later this summer.
Speaking for Bolivar Landing, a guy contacted Ira the other day about doing trail work at BL as apparently the Corp received some significant grant money and he (and friends) are looking to make this place a quality mtb location in SWMO. We (Dale, Ira, and I along with the guy who heads up the equestrian side of the trail) added some new routes out there over the winter just for mtb'ers (as the horses created a couple problem areas non-conducive to biking) and are stoked to hear more work is on the way. I think I'll head out there this evening for a little mtb'ing and check out the conditions as the biggest knock on BL is it holds moisture in a handful of areas (making riding difficult) for a long time after rains. A couple more re-routes like we did over the winter will cure that issue for mtb'ers.
Fitness: Monday - Played 1hr of basketball at noon and considered it an active rest/recovery day. Tuesday - 1hr AM spin on mtb (road slick tires), 1 1/2hr basketball at lunch, and will try to make it to BL this evening for a couple hour spin, but it supposed to rain this afternoon so who knows.
